Can anyone provide
any information about this badge which was sent to me as an image file by Cliff
Lord of New Zealand. The badge has the words 260
Signal Squadron (SAM) along the bottom and is in the form of a transfer. I am
very keen to know more about this badge. When it was introduced and by
whom.

Hello and
welcome. My name is Archie Cairns and I am the Association Webmaster. My job in
the association is build and maintain these web pages for your enjoyment and
this is where I do all my work.
I served with
the Squadron in Dortmund from 1971 - 1974 and was a member of X Troop. I was a
Combat Radioman Detachment Commander and for a short period I was responsible
for the B70 Radio Relay Section. I served with the Squadron in Belfast on
"Operation Banner" as part of Y Troop based at St Mathews during the period
March - July 1973. For those who served at St Matts, I was part of Rod
Webdell's section 32 Foxtrot and later took over command of 33 Foxtrot from
Rick Lee who was on attachment from 653 Signal Troop (SAM). I was privileged to
have experienced the first 'Summer Camp' at Bad Kreznach with members of 8th
U.S. Signal Battalion in 1974 prior to my posting to 11 Signal Regiment
Catterick Garrison as a Recruit Training
Instructor.
I joined 260
RSA in 2000 and attended my first reunion at Dortmund in that same year. At the
AGM in April 2001 I was asked if I would take on the role of Webmaster in order
to promote the association and to try to trace and encourage more members to
join.
Building the
Web Site has been the easy part. Trying to find material to put on the pages to
make them interesting not so easy. I am very grateful to the many people that
have sent in photographs and information about the history of the Squadron
which I hope to display on the website at some point in the future. I am
greatly encouraged by ALL of your kind comments in the GuestBook and in the
Message Board and even more so when I learn more and more of you are applying
to join the association.
I look
forward to meeting you ALL at our Special Reunion in Dortmund next year when we
mark 2nd visit to the City since the disbandment of the Squadron. I know that
Pete Lori, John Seymour and Geoff Scott and the other Members of the Committee
are working hard to ensure that this event will be a memorable occasion and I
do hope you will make a special effort to attend.
I consider it
a great privilege to have been given the opportunity to build this website on
your behalf and I hope it reflects the right image of our Squadron and
Association. Our Squadron may no longer be an active unit within the Royal
Corps of Signals but we will do our best to keep alive the memory and the
'Spirit' of our Squadron.
Archie
